Praise be to God and his success, the medical team at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Medina succeeded in ending the suffering of a sixty-year-old from anal bleeding while changing his bowel habits.

Immediately upon the patient’s arrival at the hospital, laboratory tests, x-rays, and a colonoscopy were performed, which revealed the presence of a cancerous tumor at the end of the sigmoid colon and the beginning of the rectum, specifically 13 cm from the anus. After an investigative CT scan with dye to rule out secondary infections and taking a tissue biopsy, the patient’s condition was explained and he was qualified for laparoscopic surgery under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Al-Husseini, Consultant in General Surgery, Oncology and Endoscopy. The patient entered the General Surgery Department to prepare him for the operation to perform a laparoscopic partial resection of the left colon with the help of surgical staplers through small incisions instead of a surgical incision, which reduces the recovery and recovery period by at least 50%, and also reduces the patient’s need for painkillers, in addition to reducing complications. The wound is large.

The operation and what followed were completed successfully, and the patient entered a period of recovery and close observation in the hospital with full nutrition intravenously, and then the processes of natural elimination and eating through the mouth gradually began naturally, and the patient was discharged from the hospital on the fifth day. Thank God, the operation to remove the left colon and the first anastomosis in one stage was successful, with sufficient safety space, the tumor was radically removed along with all the lymph nodes, and x-rays were performed with ascending dye to ensure that no leakage had occurred. It is worth noting that the integration of medical services at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Medina made it possible to treat such complex cases, as there was complete cooperation between the departments of surgery, anesthesia, gastrointestinal endoscopy, oncology, diagnostic radiology and tissue examination, in addition to the role of the nursing staff and the supporting departments.

This surgery is a highly precise and highly complex operation that is in line with Al Mouwasat Company’s vision of attracting competencies and precise medical specialties while providing the latest medical technologies and equipment.

Jubail - Mouwasat Hospital

A new historical medical milestone has been achieved at Mouwasat Hospital in Jubail by diagnosing and successfully treating the first confirmed case of pulmonary paragonimiasis in Saudi Arabia. This rare parasitic disease primarily affects the lungs. Remarkably, this case is also the first documented worldwide where the infection caused a scrotal abscess, ultimately requiring the removal of one testicle.

Thanks to the hospital’s advanced diagnostic capabilities and the expertise of its medical team, specialized sample analysis detected parasitic eggs, leading to an accurate diagnosis. Further examinations uncovered a rare complication, a scrotal abscess, which was surgically removed in a successful procedure.

Medical Team

The case was managed by a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Salah Ahmed – Consultant in Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, and Tropical Medicine; Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) and the American College of Chest Physicians, With the participation of a select group of specialised doctors:

Case Details

The patient came with chronic bleeding and low hemoglobin levels. After comprehensive diagnostic tests, including imaging and endoscopy, a tumor was detected in the right colon near the liver, requiring immediate surgical intervention.
