By the grace and success of God, the medical team at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Riyadh succeeded; From the removal of a rare tumor on the ovaries of a 38-year-old woman, who was suffering from abdominal pain and bloating.

Immediately upon the patient’s attendance at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, television and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans were performed, which revealed the presence of (tumors) and cysts on the ovaries. After presenting the case to Dr. Ahmed Al-Anwar, a consultant in obstetrics and gynecology, he immediately decided to perform a surgical laparoscopy to diagnose the type of tumor after the procedure. Necessary tests and tumor markers.

A surgical laparoscopy was performed, which revealed the presence of solid tumors on the ovaries. A sample of the tumors was taken using the laparoscope to determine the nature of these tumors. By sending the samples to the laboratory, a rare type of ovarian tumor called (Krukenberg tumor) was diagnosed, which is one of the rare tumors whose incidence does not exceed 1-2% of ovarian tumors. Referring to the nature of this tumor, it is a secondary tumor on the ovaries that usually emerges from the digestive system. Although the patient does not suffer from any symptoms in the digestive system, it was necessary to search for the primary tumor in order to remove it, hence the difficulty of diagnosis. The hospital's gastroenterology and endoscopy consultant performed a colonoscopy and gastroscopy, which showed the presence of a very small tumor in the stomach. A sample was taken from it and sent to the laboratory, and it was diagnosed as primary stomach cancer with secondary cancer (Krukenberg) in the ovaries.

Since surgical intervention (despite its difficulty in such cases due to the large size of the tumor and the presence of severe adhesions) increases the chance of recovery, the patient was prepared for the second stage of surgery, where surgical exploration and complete removal of the uterus and ovarian tumors was performed by the obstetrics and gynecology surgery team under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Al-Anwar. In cooperation with the general surgery team under the supervision of Dr. Ali Al-Mutairi, Consultant in General Surgery and Colon Surgery, a partial gastric resection was performed.

Thank God, the operation was successful and the patient left the hospital after recovery and is in good health to continue her chemotherapy journey.

It is worth noting that this type of operation depends on modern medical technology and medical personnel trained at the highest level, which is in line with the vision of Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Company in attracting competencies and precise sub-specialties through the use of the latest technologies and advanced medical equipment in this field.
