The medical team at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Al-Khobar successfully saved the life of a three-month-old infant who arrived at the hospital in critical condition. The baby was suffering from a tumor on the right side of her neck, severely affecting her respiratory system and causing breathing difficulties that necessitated the use of a ventilator. The situation was further complicated by the tumor's rapid growth, raising the possibility of requiring a delicate tracheotomy surgery, which would mean lifelong dependence on the tracheostomy for breathing.

Upon the infant's arrival, a specialized medical team at Al-Mouwasat Hospital convened to thoroughly assess her condition. The team included distinguished doctors such as Dr. Turki Al-Otaibi (Consultant in Pediatric Intensive Care), Dr. Farah Hajar (Consultant in Neonatology and Head of Pediatrics and Neonatology), Dr. Ahmed Al-Khatib (Consultant in Pediatric ENT and Department Head), and Dr. Ahmed Al-Naami (Consultant Interventional Radiologist). Following the necessary examinations, which included a contrast-enhanced CT scan and an MRI of the tumor, it was determined that the tumor was not cancerous but a type of rare cystic tumor known as "cystic hygroma," present since birth and gradually growing to compress the trachea.

Dr. Ahmed Al-Khatib discussed the case and concluded that surgery should be avoided due to the high risk associated with operating on this neck area and the likelihood of tumor recurrence. Instead, the medical team recommended a drug injection treatment as the best course of action to reduce the tumor's size and alleviate pressure on surrounding structures.

After the successful administration of the drug, the infant showed significant improvement. Within just two days, Dr. Ahmed removed the ventilator tube, and the baby's condition improved remarkably, allowing her to resume normal feeding. She was closely monitored in the hospital and discharged two weeks after the treatment in excellent health.

This case highlights the rarity of such conditions and the critical role of medical expertise in successful outcomes. The successful treatment by the Al-Mouwasat medical team in Al-Khobar underscores the hospital's commitment to utilizing advanced medical techniques and aligns with Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Company's vision to attract top-tier medical talents and specialties, employing the latest technologies and medical equipment in the field.
